You don’t need a separate, dedicated device to clean your iPhone, especially one that’s as expensive as some of PhoneSoap’s products. If you take care of your iPhone properly — meaning that you regularly wipe it down and disinfect it (by carefully using rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth) — you shouldn’t have to employ any sort of machine. But if we’re honest, can you remember the last time you wiped yours down? Probably not.

PhoneSoap claims that the average smartphone has 18 times more bacteria on it than a public restroom’s door handle or sink, which seems slightly ridiculous, but also not really that unrealistic. How often do you use iPhone when you’re sitting on the toilet and eating lunch? (Actually… don’t answer that.) The company has created a line of products that capitalize on people not realizing how disgusting their smartphones are and, once they do, freaking out enough to pick up a gadget that kills 99.9-percent of bacteria – which is exactly what PhoneSoap’s products do, by blasting your iPhone or other gadgets with germ-killing UV light.

I’ve used the PhoneSoap XL, which is the largest product that company makes, for a few weeks and it hasn’t changed my life – but it has definitely given a little extra piece of mind. The PhoneSoap XL, which many people online have called it a “tanning bed” for your gadgets, was designed for iPads and iPhones, but it’s actually capable of cleaning anything that can fit in it. I used with my wireless keyboard, mouse, MacBook Pro, Nintendo Switch and headphones — basically, any piece of tech that I often touch with my hands.

So how do you tell if your device is clean? Since I wasn’t doing in-depth experiments to make sure the PhoneSoap was actually doing its job and killing the gross bacteria that was undoubtedly on my stuff, it definitely required a bit of trust. That said, other users have done some pretty deep dives on PhoneSoap, even growing their own bacteria to see how much the product kills. Bottom line: it works.

Advertisement - Continue Reading Below

The PhoneSoap XL isn’t a complicated product. To use it, you just open the door, place your device inside, close the door and it’ll automatically start. There’s no button to push or switch to hit. You just need to make sure that the PhoneSoap XL is plugged in – it has a 2.4A USB port on its back for power – and then, after it has run for about 15 minutes, the blue light on the door will turn off and you’re free to open it up and remove your newly clean gadget from inside. If you want to charge the gadget while you’re cleaning, you can do that too: the PhoneSoap XL has a small opening in its back through which you can slip any charging cable.

Once PhoneSoap has done the cleaning, there is no “wow” moment. It’s a fairly anticlimactic process. You just simply slide out the device and trust that it done its job. I was able to feel a little tactile difference on my iPhone and 13-inch MacBook Pro – they felt drier, not quite as slick – but I couldn’t tell that gadgets were obviously cleaner just by looking at them. Lastly, PhoneSoap makes several smaller devices that are designed just for your smartphone, in case you don’t think your larger gadgets need a blue-light bath.

What it comes down to, in my eyes, is how much you worry about bacteria and germs being on the devices that you use every day. Chances are, it’s not a lot. If you were really worried about it, all you’d need was a cloth, rubbing alcohol and careful hand and you wouldn’t have to worry about spending $135 on a device that cleans your gadgets. But that would take more time and be way more meticulous. As ridiculous as a dedicated device to clean your gadgets will sound to most people, this PhoneSoap is probably the best (and most definitely the easiest) way to make sure your smartphone, laptop and tablet are a little less nasty.

What about your face? Or, your clothes?
The answer probably is - or should be (though I'm not here to tell you how to live your life): a lot.
Now how often do you wash your phone?
The answer is probably close to never, but it shouldn't be. For most of us, our phones are like appendages, traveling with us everywhere we go, accompanying us through all of our daily activities. Maybe you take a cloth to your phone every now and then to wipe away the smudges and call it a day, but if you think that actually cleans it, you're in for a rude awakening.
A cell phone has 18 times more bacteria than a public restroom. That might sound crazy, but think about it - everything your hands touch touches your phone too. So, that bacteria lurking on the grocery cart you pushed, the door knob you opened, the subway pole you held - well, you know where it ends up.
If these cringe-worthy facts just made you never want to touch your phone again, I get it. Luckily, there's a solution - and no, it doesn't involve dousing your phone in hand sanitizer. Meet PhoneSoap, the little gadget that safely sanitizes your phone, leaving your device free of bacteria and you with some peace of mind.

How it works

PhoneSoap has a simple but effective design. It looks like a small, rectangular box - making it the perfect size to keep on your bedside table, at your office desk, or even your kitchen counter. On the outside of the box, you'll find space for three cables - the power cord, a USB, and a USB-C. To get the PhoneSoap set up, simply plug the included power cord into the wall, then into the PhoneSoap and you're all set to get sanitizing. Place your phone inside the gadget and close. Once closed, you'll see the lightning bolt power signal turn blue - this means it's charging. After ten minutes, the light will turn off and your phone is ready to go. If you'd like to charge your phone simultaneously, you have the option to plug in your personal USB or USB-C cord.
So, you put your phone in a box and it cleans it, but how does it actually get the cleaning done? The power of PhoneSoap comes in the form of UV-C light. Inside the little box are two powerful UV-C lightbulbs. UV-C light is germicidal, meaning it breaks down the DNA of nasty bacteria so it can no longer function or reproduce. The lightbulbs on the top and bottom of the device, paired with the reflective interior inside the entire gadget, help achieve 360-degree disinfection - so even the tiny, hard-to-reach crevices of your phone are clean. The UV-C light is so powerful, that it only needs ten minutes to get your phone clean - after that time, PhoneSoap automatically turns off, so don't worry about your phone getting overheated.
PhoneSoap

Does it actually work?

You've probably heard that bacteria is good for you. It boosts our immunity, right? Well, the answer is not that simple. Our bodies do count on some strains of bacteria to function properly, but there are also many forms of bacteria that are harmful and can cause illness and infections. Laboratory tests have shown that PhoneSoap kills 99.9% of common household germs, including bacteria that leads to E.Coli, Salmonella, Staph, Flu, and the common cold.
To some, this product might seem more placebo effect than practical, but the numbers tell a different story - 99.9% is almost all of the germy grime on your phone. Plus, sanitizing with UV-C light isn't new - hospitals and laboratories have been using UV light to keep facilities sterile since the mid-20th century. As for us, the consumers, I guess there's no way we can really tell that our phone is cleaner. What we can rely on, though, is the data from all of the testing PhoneSoap has done to gauge the effectiveness of the product, and the lab pictures they've got to accompany it .

Bottom Line

For better or for worse, our phones are sticking with us. And, unless you're planning on washing your hands and face before and after each time you pick up your device, all that bacteria is sticking with you too. PhoneSoap is an simple solution to keep harmful bacteria from spreading - not only from your phone to you, but from you to others as well. If you live with anyone who may have a compromised immune system - young children, elderly or ill individuals - PhoneSoap could be a particularly important investment.
At $60, it's generally just a great investment for anyone. PhoneSoap is large enough to fit all phones on the market, even with a case on. Additionally, you can throw in anything else that will fit - earphones, watches, even wallets, and it's more than just peace of mind. PhoneSoap gives real results that'll help keep you and the people around you healthier. Germaphobe or not, if you're going to treat your phone like your third hand, you should clean it like one, too.

PhoneSoap is the revolutionary phone charging case that uses UVC technology to disinfect and kill 99.99% of the germs on your phone, AirPods, or Apple Watch. Using code SWEET50, you can grab a PhoneSoap .

You may be thinking, "This is extra. I use hand sanitizer religiously." Okay, but other people don't. Cold and flu viruses spread through microscopic spittle that fly when people cough, sneeze, or even talk. Washing your hands throughout the day is second nature at this point, but most people aren't thinking before they tap their phone screen or AirPods after grabbing a subway pole or pushing an elevator button. These devices are a breeding ground for germs. And you know how you sometimes have to hand your phone to someone who touches a lot of phones in their job, like at the airport, UPS store, or pharmacy? The germs probably affect them the most, of course, but your poor phone!

UV-C rays are germicidal and can neutralize “superbugs” that have developed a resistance to antibiotics. The sanitizing bed fits phones of nearly any size and can also clean other germy devices like headphones and watches, using nano suction to hold them in place.

The most advanced addition to the family is the PhoneSoap Pro. Just released in November 2019, the Pro has twice the bulbs and can kill germs in half the time (just five minutes).

Looking for practical and efficient ways to ensure indoor air quality? Then you’ve got an array of options out there. From air purifiers to ionizers to ozone machines, all these units are great in their own ways. Today, the AirSoap Air Purifier is the new song in the market.

In conformity with PhoneSoap’s sanitation theme, the company has introduced this device that comes with more innovative features than other HEPA filters.

In recent years, the air purifier market is extremely competitive. Regardless, the AirSoap Air Purifier has taken up the challenge to outsmart other models. It’s powerful and employs a new approach to purifying and cleaning the air.

Even better, this exceptional machine has the capability to kill 99.9 percent of bacteria and airborne viruses. Its performance is equivalent to that of quality hospital-grade UV air cleaners.

And that being an impressive claim, we would want to know what’s special about this product. Let’s curate whether this AirSoap portable Air Purifier is worth your hard-earned cash.

Main Features of AirSoap

Electric Wind Technology

One of its unique features is the so-called ‘Electric Wind System’ that creates the high-energy plasma field. It’s so effective to kill the bacteria when air mass passes through it. Not only that but it also sanitizes the air by removing and reducing tiny particles like dander, pollen, and dust mites.

This is pretty great as it lets you enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep, especially during allergy season. Accordingly, the technology is backed by reusable collection plates. These plates collect undesired particles and particulate matter.

<picture loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-10176 aligncenter" data-was-processed="true">

AirSoap Air filter’s graphene plates are washable and reusable. Unlike other air purifiers that clog over time, they can still be substantial even if left unchanged for long. Airsoap is extremely energy efficient – hence keeping your air clean is achievable without wasting much power.

Grid-Style Outflow Vent

The grid-style outflow vent at the top of the air purifier is so detrimental. It makes sure that clean and healthy air gets evenly distributed in your room. But to appreciate the best performance, it’s advisable to position your AirSoap Air Purifier in an open area.

With that, the inflow vents will be free from obstructions. Plus, this allows the outflow vent to provide the outstanding possible air distribution. The black color on the top panel creates an amazing contrast to the rest of the machine.

Whisper-Quiet

The Airsoap meets a vital standard for household utilities. The electric wind system helps to increase airflow while spinning the automated fan quieter and slower than comparable HEPA Filter-based systems.

Many powerful devices that feature filters allows loud and disruptive home environment. But this new version forces enough air through filters at medium speeds. After all, the maximum speed provides 58dB of noise. This is another win for Airsoap.

Overall Design

If you’re considering a standard mid-sized model, the Airsoap is second to none. Measuring 21.06-inch tall, 10.25-inch wide and 10.6-inch deep, this air purifier is portable. Moreover, the air intakes well-located on the back and sides to offer an eccentric, bar graph-style design.

<picture loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-10174 aligncenter" data-was-processed="true">

Most importantly, the construction is sturdy ABC plastic, with a white finish that’s effortless to keep clean. Designed with handles on both sides, you can carry it around with you hassle-free. You may not need to carry it very often, nonetheless, it’s a magnificent option when the quest calls.

Everyday Use

Thankfully, the Air Purifier is easy to set up and operate. Featuring a single button, you can cycle through 4 different modes. The fan speed will depend on your air quality around you. In Auto Mode, the fan will speed up when air quality is not convincing and vice versa.

This provides a balance between effectiveness and energy efficiency. If you want manual control, then you can set and adjust the fan speed to different modes (low, medium, high).

If you want to activate the device’s child lock, hold the button for around 5 seconds. This will prevent the activation by mistake by an inquisitive person or child. To reactivate just hold the last button for 5 seconds.

The AirSoap is very safe to use. Other traditional ionizers are known to produce a large amount of ozone, but this unit produces only 10 parts/billion of ozone.

Not to mention, you don’t have to worry about costly replacement filters. AirSoap’s earth-friendly tech uses reusable, washable, graphene plates to effectively purify the home’s air while saving you money.

What Does The AirSoap Remove?

Engineered with an Electric Wind system, AirSoap kills bacteria and viruses. It’s not limited to that only but it also captures the pollutants and eliminates particulates. These are significant benefits that make it a winner against other reputable HEPA filters. Don’t let your home turn into a bacteria colony. It’s the best air purifier for home.

If you’re concerned about sanitation, welcome to the club! These days, everyone is more thoughtful about keeping our supplies and gadgets germ-free. We’re even wiping down shopping cart handles before we use them. Given everything that’s going on, it’s perfectly understandable. But how do you keep your electronics clean? Soap and water is a non-starter. And even if you use alcohol, you’re going to have grooves, nooks, and crannies to worry about. One solution is to use a UV sanitizer. With UV light, you can clean virtually anything. And you won’t have to worry about any nasty chemical residues or fumes.

So, how do you know whether a UV phone sanitizer is worth its salt? One way is to choose a manufacturer that’s been in the business for a while. In this regard, PhoneSoap stands out. We’ve reviewed several PhoneSoap products in the past, including the PhoneSoap Go and the PhoneSoap Pro. We’ve also reviewed the AirSoap, a UV air purifier for your home. As the names imply, PhoneSoap’s products are typically designed to clean smartphones. Today, we’ll be reviewing HomeSoap, a larger sanitizer that’s designed to clean larger devices. But how well does it actually work? We’re going to take a closer look, and see how it performs in practice. Then, we’ll render a final verdict. Let’s get started!

How Does a UV Sanitizer Work?

Before we actually review HomeSoap , let’s talk about how a UV sanitizer works. Because these have previously been niche devices, many people may not be familiar with how they function. The heart of the device is UV-C radiation, or light with a wavelength of 100 to 280 nanometers. In this range, the waves are very energetic, and are powerful enough to kill viruses and bacteria. They do this by destroying DNA and RNA molecules that form the heart of every living organism.

The downside of this kind of light is that it can also damage human tissue. In fact, the small amount of UV light you receive from the sun is what causes sunburn. A dedicated UV-C bulb, however, can cause burns in under a minute. And repeated exposure can even cause skin cancer. Thankfully, an enclosed UV sanitizer mitigates this risk. Since the bulbs will only come on when the enclosure is closed, you won’t get exposed to the rays. On the other hand, you won’t be able to clean anything that’s too big for the enclosure. For that purpose, you’d need to use a UV light wand.

So, why not just use a UV light wand to clean all your devices? The problem is that you need to keep track of the exposure time. The time needed to sanitize a surface will depend on the wavelength and intensity of the light. If you don’t follow the instructions exactly, you can end up with incomplete sanitation. In addition, you also need to hold the wand the right distance from the surface. If it’s not close enough, it’s not going to be effective. If it’s too close, you’ll end up taking longer than necessary because you won’t cover as much area at once.

With an enclosed UV sanitizer, you don’t have to worry about these issues. The light is always the right distance from your device. You’re also going to get 360-degree exposure, so the entire surface is covered. Even better, there’s a built-in timer. In other words, it’s a no-brainer. Just put your devices inside and run a cleaning cycle. If you want to be extra cautious, just run a second cycle. In the best case scenario, you’ll get better cleaning. In the worst case scenario, you’ll add a few pennies to your electric bill.

So, how effective are UV sanitizers? Most of them advertise 99.9 or 99.99 percent effectiveness. Why not 100 percent? In fact, if you look at a can of Lysol, you’ll see a similar claim. The fact is that any surface is going to house hundreds of thousands of bacteria. The same surface will host billions and billions of viruses. There’s just no practical way to determine that every last one of those bugs has been killed. Even if you had a powerful microscope and scanned the entire surface, it would be impossible to make a guarantee. So, to protect themselves from liability, companies claim 99.9 percent effectiveness. Even so, that should be more than good enough to keep you from getting sick under most circumstances.

Overall Design

HomeSoap is constructed from black anodized aluminum. It’s sturdy and durable, more like a real home appliance than a simple electronic device. The edges are slightly rounded, with a scalloped top and bottom that won’t slide around easily. It’s relatively big and bulky, measuring 5.95 inches wide, 11.15 inches tall, and 15 inches deep. This is about the size of a large game console. As a result, you’re going to have to find a place to put it. You can’t just plunk it down in the middle of your desk.

That said, the large size is necessary to accommodate larger devices. The interior dimensions are fairly spacious, at 3.66 inches wide, 9.24 inches tall, and 13.18 inches deep. At this size, HomeSoap can accommodate a wide variety of home devices. You can clean remote controls, game controllers, and tablets like the Apple iPad Pro. There’s even enough room inside for a Nintendo Switch. Most tenkeyless keyboards will also fit inside. Pretty much any home device you want to sanitize, it’s going to get the job done. You can even sanitize your face mask so it doesn’t become a harbor for bacteria.

HomeSoap opens from the front, and pops open similar to a locker. On the inside, you’ll see a pair of UV-C lamps, one on the top and one on the bottom. These lamps are rated to kill 99.99 percent of germs, and achieve 360-degree coverage. This is due to the mirrored interior, which reflects the light all around the inside of it. Just inside the door, at the top of the interior, you’ll see a pair of USB ports. One is a standard USB Type-A port, while the other is USB Type-C. As long as it’s plugged in, you can charge two devices simultaneously, even while they’re being sanitized. So if you want to clean your smartphone or tablet, you won’t have to sacrifice charging time.

Just above HomeSoap’s door, there’s a lightning bolt-shaped LED light. This light glows when HomeSoap is actively sanitizing your devices. This is a handy feature, since you can’t see inside HomeSoap when the door is closed. It’s also a useful safety feature so you don’t accidentally open the door while it’s in use. The lights should turn off automatically when you open the door, but a backup safety feature is much appreciated. In addition to HomeSoap itself, you also get an AC power adapter. So as soon as you open the box, you’re ready to start sanitizing.

Ease of Use

When it comes to everyday use, HomeSoap couldn’t be simpler. It features a single button on the top of the case that operates all the controls. With the touch of a button, you can turn the UV lights on and off. You can also switch between two different modes: auto mode and manual mode. In auto mode, the sanitizer will automatically start every time you close the door. The lights will remain on for 10 minutes, or will shut off early if you push the button again.

In manual mode, the lights will not automatically turn on when you shut the door. Instead, you’ll need to press the button to start a sanitizing cycle. As with the automatic mode, the cycle will last for ten minutes, or until you press the button again. To switch between modes, simply press and hold the button for three seconds. When the mode has switched, the lightning bolt on the top front panel will flash. Regardless of which mode you use, you should run a full 10-minute cycle if you want complete sanitization. Less than that, and HomeSoap will not be fully effective.

In terms of what you can clean with HomeSoap, your options are pretty much endless. If an object fits inside, you can sanitize it. That said, there are a few limitations that you should be aware of. To begin with, UV light is most effective on hard, non-porous surfaces. This is because the light can access the entire surface, without any obstructions. Cloth and other soft materials will only be partially sterilized. This is because outer layers will block the UV light from penetrating to the inner layers. Remember, if the UV light isn’t actually contacting a surface, it’s not doing any good.

Another limitation is that if your device is directly touching the inside of the case, it’s not getting clean. This is because the side of the case will effectively block the light from reaching it. The bottom of HomeSoap consists of a transparent quartz plate, so you won’t have any issues there. If your device needs to lean on the side, there’s a workable way to do this. There are a pair of vertical quartz tubes on each side that are designed for this purpose. Simply lean your device on one of these tubes, and it will get 360-degree exposure.

Final Verdict

HomeSoap is one of the most effective home UV sanitizers on the market. It has a large capacity, which allows it to sanitize most electronic devices. Admittedly, this large size comes with a bulky form factor, but that’s a matter of necessity. HomeSoap is also very effective. With two UV bulbs and 360-degree coverage, it will sanitize all sides of your device in only 10 minutes. Not only that, but it’s easy to use. The single-button operation is just about as simple as it gets. And the ability to switch between automatic and manual modes is a nice extra feature.

PhoneSoap, an electronics company manufacturing ultraviolet (UV) light sanitizers, has unveiled its new AirSoap air purifier and claims to capture and filter particles HEPA filters can't.

Through PhoneSoap's proprietary "Electric Wind Technology," the AirSoap generates what the company calls a "high-energy plasma field" that allows it to kill viruses and bacteria, as well as polarizing airborne particles.

This field can capture airborne particles that are as small as 14 nanometers. In comparison, conventional air purifiers that use HEPA filters can capture airborne particles larger than 300 nanometers.

AirSoap is a revolutionary new air purifier technology that kills and captures even the smallest viruses HEPA filters can't. Proven to kill 99.99% of airborne viruses*, AirSoap uses washable and reusable collection plates instead of costly HEPA filters. AirSoap is the best choice for your health, your wallet, and the planet.

AirSoap Kills Viruses HEPA Filters Can't

In its product webpage, PhoneSoap notes that HEPA filters, with their limitation in filtering airborne particles, are not advisable for use against coronaviruses, usually 120 nanometers in size for the SARS-CoV-2, as well as Influenza virus, which ranges from 80 to 120 nanometers in the A 80 strain.

RELATED: AeroNabs: A Novel Protection Against COVID

While the AirSoap has been certified in its capability to capture and filter out particles as small as 14nm, it notes that the company has not yet specifically tested their filter for SARS-CoV-2, citing "it is not yet available for testing." However, the developers of the product reiterate that AirSoap has been tested and proven to kill more than 99.9% in even smaller viruses such as the Influenza A-H3N2.

In comparison to the conventional HEPA filter-based air purifiers, the AirSoap is cheaper and more effective. After its plasma field polarizes the air and the particles around it, these polarized particles are filtered in the AirSoap's reusable graphene collecting plates.

These plates are washable and reusable as opposed to HEPA-based filtration systems that require periodic replacement of filters. Also, where HEPA filters only trap pollutants and can even cause hard if not periodically replaced, the Electric Wind Technology claims to "kill germs before they are captured for safer, purer air."

A Safe and Convenient House Help

At only 21 inches high and almost 10 by 10 inches, the AirSoap can effectively purify the air for rooms up to 400 square feet in area. Additionally, its Electric Wind technology relies on energy-efficient electric systems in its filtration mechanism instead of forcing air and particles through a filter that separates them. This technology increases airflow while running its fans slower and quieter than conventional air purifiers. According to their product page, AirSoap only uses half as much energy in filtering the same volume of air compared to HEPA filter-based systems.

In a product tutorial last June, AirSoap must be placed in an open area at least 20 inches in space, in all directions, for optimal performance. It also has multiple operating settings controllable through a button on the top of the device—controlling its "Auto Mode" and four fan speeds. Users can also press the button for five seconds to activate its child lock feature.

AirSoap also features an indicator lamp at the base of the unit to tell the users of their room's air quality. It turns green for excellent air quality, yellow-green for moderate, yellow for unhealthy, and red for hazardous.
